Considering a Career in PEO Sales?

“Why should I?”

Why would you want to sell PEO Services? This is one of the fastest growing
industries out there, which means some great income opportunities, but
there are some things you should know!

The Good News

The good news about a career in PEO sales is that it can be the most rewarding
thing you have ever done. We touch peoples’ lives in a very positive way
and that is something valuable.

Another good thing to consider is that if you work smart, study
the industry, and help businesses get what they need/want you can benefit
financially. Some people in this business make well into six and seven
figures while building a sizable residual income.

The Bad News

Unfortunately there are some pitfalls on the path to success. When interviewing
for a career in the PEO industry there are a few things you need to know.

1) NEVER sign any contract any company puts in front of you without taking
it home, reading it, and investigating that company thoroughly. Why?

In this business there are independent reps and “captive” reps. A “captive
rep” can only sell one PEO!

Is this bad? Sometimes those PEOs are substandard and you don’t discover
it until it’s too late.

Even with a good PEO, there will be limitations. There will be clients
you have that don’t fit the PEO guidelines, and you will have to let them
go somewhere else.

Most companies with “captive reps” require the agent to sign a non-compete
agreement as well as a restrictive covenant. This means you can only sell
their services! Also, if you choose to leave, you can’t sell any other
industry product or service for up to two years.

How can you tell if a brokerage is “captive”? Ask them if you are allowed
to sell the services of other companies at the same time you sell theirs,
and get it in writing, before you sign anything.

What should I do?

If you are interested in a career in PEO Sales do your homework.
Talk to everyone you know. Ask them who they know in the industry. Take
your time and learn as much as you can about the company you are considering
joining. Check out the company at some of the industry resources:

FAPEO (Florida Association of PEOs)
NAPEO (National Association of PEOs)
The PEO Message Facebook Group
(If you find some other sources please Tell us about
them using the quick contact form below.)

Ask lots of questions. If you don’t get answers that make sense walk away……………

If you are trapped in a “captive PEO” ask yourself some simple questions.

  1. Can you sleep nights selling their services only?
  2. Are you selling something you would want your mom, dad, family
    to be part of?
  3. Is your future manager telling you one thing but everything you
see and hear tells you something different?
  4. Will your monthly check really match what you are told when they
    recruit you?
  5. When was the last time the Regional Manager/Branch Manager went
out on a real sales call?
  6. Does your company use the service they want you to sell others?
